“You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; my cup runs over.” Psalms 23:5 NKJV
God is not the type of God who exalts you behind your enemies’ back or while they are sleeping. He does it in front of them to let them know who He is and who you are to Him.
Let me break this down in a way I have experienced Abba Father. I have found myself in many situations where my enemies didn’t like me for whatever reason. But I continued to sit at the table and eat from God’s Word, being careful of how I treated them. Being careful not to become bitter toward them. Being peaceful when I really wanted to make a scene and lose my cool. Yep, I continued to be Christlike, loving them in spite of how the way they were treating me.
And in due season, God prepared a table before me, letting me know, it was time to either be exalted or leave in victory because I didn’t give up. When He exalted me, He did it in the presence of my enemies because He wanted them to know whose I was and who He was as my Abba Father. Not only that. He did it to show me He could fight my battles.
So, how was I able to stand against the ridicule and hatefulness of my enemies?
God fattened my head with oil. The oil was His Word which strengthened me and gave me power to stand. The oil was His comfort when I would cry from the hurt. The oil was His love when I felt unloved. God covered me in His arms and kept me from falling into despair.
“Then all this assembly shall know that the LORD does not save with sword and spear; for the battle is the LORD’s, and He will give you into our hands.” 1 Samuel 17:47 NKJV
My sister, my brother, I want to encourage you to allow God to fight your battles. He knows your enemies better than you. He knows what it will take to defend them. Though it may look like they are winning when they are getting away with their evil deeds, but looks can deceive. They will reap what they sow.
“Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.” Galatians 6:7 NKJV
