“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30 NKJV
Sabbath should be a day of rest, but to some people it is not. We are just as busy as any other day of the week. In spite of the busy schedules and tasks, we have to rest. God took a day of rest, so why don’t we do the same?
It is good to rest. It is nothing to be ashamed of or guilty about when it comes to resting the mind, soul, and body.
Resting renews our strength. Sometimes, we don’t know how exhausted our bodies and minds are, until we take a rest. The body has its own defenses, it will shut down on you, if you don’t rest.
Resting gives us time to reflect on the things that may have happened through the week. Not to think on those things and dwell on the negative things that may have happened. But to think on the goodness of the Lord getting us through the week.
Resting gives us the opportunity to lay down our burdens at Jesus’s feet and find rest for our souls. We can’t get so busy in this world and not take the time to care for our souls.
Self-care is not selfish. It is needed and required. You can’t help anyone else when you are exhausted in mind, soul, and body. Get some rest. Find your safe space to meditate on the Word of God, learn from Jesus Christ, and have some alone time being still.
“Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” Psalm 46:10 NKJV
